High School Girl
Background: This homeschooled young lady approached us without any prior experience in Latin. Due to personal circumstances, she was unable to join her peers in a traditional school setting and instead received private lessons for her academic subjects. Yet, despite these challenges, she harbored a steadfast determination to succeed in every endeavor she pursued.
Outcome: Latin started as a personal hobby for this student, yet she accomplished a remarkable feat by completing our entire language sequence within a year. Along the way, she achieved gold medals in numerous international Latin contests, showcasing her exceptional aptitude for the language.
Recognizing her interest in philosophy, we provided tutorials to refine her essay for submission to the John Locke Global Essay Competition. Her outstanding work garnered recognition and earned her an invitation to an award ceremony at Oxford University.
Once more, we provided support by conducting tutorials to refine her application essay for admission into an esteemed Ivy League summer seminar. This seminar offers participants the opportunity to engage in critical discussions on philosophical ideas from classical antiquity and their resonance with contemporary social, political, and cultural issues. Her enthusiastic participation in these Socratic dialogues, where she explored the works of Plato and Aristotle, became a memorable highlight of her academic journey.

Middle School Boy
Background: This young lad approached us with a keen interest in Latin, drawn by its reputation for enhancing verbal skills in the English language. Additionally, he was eager to bolster his college resume, having learned about the multitude of contest opportunities available in Latin throughout the year.
Outcome: This student’s dedication and talent produced impressive outcomes. He not only earned numerous gold medals in Latin contests spanning his middle and high school years but also demonstrated proficiency across a range of levels, from beginner to advanced.
Recognizing his potential, we helped him apply to and prepare for a plethora of opportunities tailored to his interests. This included providing writing tutorials for essays required for admission into summer programs such as the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University, the Talent Identification Program at Duke University, and two summer undergraduate courses as a rising 10th grader in “Philosophy of Mind” and “Politics, Culture, and Marxism” at a top ten university. Additionally, as a rising 11th grader, he participated in a research seminar in classical humanities taught by faculty members from Stanford and Harvard.
One of the most noteworthy experiences was his participation in an advanced summer course in Italy, where he earned upper-division college credit in Latin. Immersed in the rich history of Rome, he toured ancient ruins in the mornings and delved into discussions on Latin prose and poetry in the afternoons. This unique opportunity offered him a once-in-a-lifetime experience, solidifying his passion for Latin and classical studies.
Overall, it’s clear that his dedication, coupled with our collaborative efforts, yielded significant results. We offered extensive tutorials to refine his main and supplementary essays for over 20 universities and liberal arts colleges. His exceptional academic achievements led to acceptance at nearly all Ivy League schools he applied to. However, after careful consideration, he ultimately decided on Stanford University as his academic destination.

Middle School Girl
Background: This young girl sought to gain an early advantage in Latin while attending an international school in Seoul, Korea. Her goal was to prepare herself for a transfer the following year to a New England boarding school in the US, where a rigorous study of Latin has long been emblematic of a classical education.
Outcome: In her pursuit of excellence, this student’s relentless drive propelled her to win awards in a series of contests in Latin and classical humanities over the span of one year, during which she completed our language sequence. Not content with mere proficiency, she also undertook and completed two short courses in the literature sequence, typically reserved for older students.
We discovered that she had a passion for debate and argumentative writing. Recognizing her potential, we provided tutorials to prepare her for the International Philosophy Olympiad. Notably, in her freshman year, she was selected to represent South Korea, outshining juniors and seniors from Europe and other countries worldwide.
Upon admission to her top-choice boarding school, she demonstrated her advanced proficiency by skipping the first two years of Latin after successfully passing a placement test. Undeterred by her age, she engaged in upper-level courses alongside older students. Within a year, she assumed the role of president of the school’s Latin club, further solidifying her dedication and leadership in the field.

Elementary School Boy
Background: While our typical starting age for Latin instruction is the 5th grade, we occasionally encounter younger students who exhibit a genuine fondness for classical studies and solid verbal reasoning skills in English. In such instances, like with this 2nd grader, we are open to making exceptions and offering early exposure to Latin.
Outcome: This young student embarked on an incredible journey of academic achievement. Participating in every international contest in classical humanities suitable for his grade level, he also took on Latin contests challenging students older than himself. His efforts were rewarded with numerous medals across all rounds of competition.
Beginning his Latin studies in 2nd grade, he initially followed a curriculum commonly used in middle schools in the US and UK, progressing at a leisurely pace. However, his innate grasp of the language’s highly inflected nature quickly became apparent. Recognizing his aptitude, we soon promoted him to a more advanced level, where he made rapid strides using a curriculum commonly reserved for high school and college students.

Elementary School Girl
Background: This young girl attended a school following a British curriculum, where students are required to choose a foreign language for long-term study leading up to the IB Diploma. Despite being just a rising 5th grader, she exhibited a level of conscientiousness beyond her years. She expressed a desire to solidify her decision regarding the pursuit of Latin after completing our intensive summer course.
Outcome: Following the summer course, she seamlessly transitioned into our accelerated program, enabling her to make rapid progress in both language and literature sequences. Within two years, she had advanced to the point where she could read and analyze original verse penned by the greatest poets from Rome’s Golden Age–a remarkable achievement typically expected of college students enrolled in upper-division courses in Latin poetry.
Throughout her journey, she accumulated numerous accolades in nearly every contest available, consistently earning praise at increasingly higher levels. Particularly notable were her first-place finishes in two separate and highly selective poetry writing contests. One contest was conducted in Latin, while the other was in English, both centered around themes related to classical antiquity.
Remarkably, as a 6th grader, she was invited to join her school’s exclusive Latin club, an honor generally reserved for high school students preparing for the IGCSE and IB Latin Exams. This recognition underscored her exceptional talent and dedication to the study of Latin and classical literature.
