Competition Overview
The National Classical Etymology Exam is a prestigious international contest that challenges students to demonstrate their understanding of Latin and Greek derivatives in English. This knowledge builds critical verbal skills that directly enhance performance on standardized tests like the SAT and ACT. This year's competition featured:
2,815 participants worldwide
Three distinct categories
Five divisions within each category

What makes our results particularly impressive is that while this competition primarily targets high school students, our elementary and middle school students from Emerson Latin continue to excel—earning gold medals both in previous years and in this year's competition.
